Instagram will reject a text-only post. That is not a bug.
The composer blocks Instagram until you attach media, because a green checkmark that lied is worse than a stricter form.
Every few weeks I catch myself trying to send a text-only thought to Instagram. Instagram will reject it. That is not a PostBroadcaster bug, and it is not Meta being difficult for sport. The product is built around a photo or a video. A caption without media is not a post there.
A lot of schedulers let you queue the text anyway, then fail at send time. Some skip Instagram silently and still tell you the post succeeded. I would rather block the Instagram account in the composer until you attach media. It feels stricter in the moment. It saves the worse feeling of a green checkmark that lied.
Upload once, caption separately
The practical workflow, if you want the same clip everywhere, is to upload once and reuse it. TikTok, YouTube Shorts, and Instagram Reels can share a file. The captions can still differ. The short networks can drop the media if they do not need it. X can take the still. LinkedIn can take a longer caption under the same video.
That is the version of "post everywhere" that does not insult the destination. You are not pretending Instagram is a text box. You are admitting it is a media network, then using the same file as a starting point instead of exporting five times from an editor.
Pixelfed sits in a similar place on the open web: photos, not essays. If you already shoot for Instagram, it is often the same upload with a different audience. I would rather that be a checkbox in the same composer than a second app you remember twice a year.
Skipping a network is allowed
If you are text-first that day, skip Instagram for that post. That is allowed. Not every thought belongs on every network. The composer is there so the ones that do belong can leave at the same time, with the constraints of each network still visible.
I used to treat a skipped network as a failure of discipline. It is not. It is taste. A dry note about a schema change does not need a stock photo so it can visit Reels. A photo of a thing you built does not need a 2,000-character LinkedIn essay unless you actually have the essay.
The job of the tool is to make the honest combination easy: media where media is required, text where text is enough, and no fake success when the network would have said no.
